What a handsome devil with the MGA, and your friend Dave had a very nice early TR4 there as well. Looks like the MGA suspension is as smooth as my TR3B. (Can you say buckboard boys and girls?) Makes me want to get out the old 16mm home movies, which include my mom's family trips from the 30's as well as my childhood vacations. Cool stuff. Thanks for sharing.

I also saw a couple of Franklins in your slide exhibit. I really like my Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III model AF-2840. Too bad Minolta was bought out and now the best available is much more expensive Nikon model. I found my Dimage through Amazon as a reconditioned unit. It works great, and I use my air brush from my spray booth to clean the slides and negatives before scanning. Saves a lot of time on the back end.

Becky, I had the Triumph out on the road for the first time in months yesterday, with the American Road Key Chain proudly on the key. It was great to have sun and 60 degrees, even if it only was about 5 miles with the top down. Thanks again.

Hopefully we will get this poll going soon, as I am heading to Disney World for a brief vacation with my bride, and will be away from the computer. I hate to miss voting in the polls here.

I never got to the BHOF, but I did find and visit the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden when I was passing through Springfield on a trip back from my daughter's wedding. Brought back many memories.

I got a fun book called More Signspotting which is a hoot, the book Crosley, the board game Route 66, and the DVD Wild Hogs which features Madrid NM, which we visited on a prior trip. Also got some die-cast model cars for my HO slot layout, and had all three kids, our granddaughter, and my mom all home for Christmas. It was one of the best ever.

I think there should be a way to keep the old name and add the information that they wanted such as "Adele's Lincoln Highway Diner" or "Adele's Heritage Highway Diner". This would allow the history to remain while letting new people know that this is a vintage landmark to be visited.

Dave, Denny, and Alex, Thanks for the detailing of this history lesson. It is interesting that the joining of auto manufacturers into new companies is an on-going process. Just like AMC, Kaiser-Frasier, and even when Packard and Studebaker tried to make a go of it as a combined company. I love this stuff. I hope that Dave keeps posting these old auto ads... Thanks guys!

Dave, Thanks for reminding me about COBOL, although I did most of my programming back at Lehigh U in FORTRAN. I remember submitting packs of punched cards, and then coming back to the computer lab to see if my program, under my code name of Buick8 (I was driving a 52 Buick straight 8 around 1970), had compiled on the school's main frame. This is another lovely memory you have gotten me into...

Dave, You are sure right it is cold and damp in the garage. I wanted to install the rebuilt temperature gauge, but the little cube heater does not have much success in warming the place. I did get the gauge back into the dash, but I need to finish getting the tube back in, properly this time, and then button it all back up and see if it is working correctly. And now, one restored gauge makes the others look bad. Ouch! Oh well. Let me know when the heat is better in the garage, and someone with proper tools is available to help. Then I can keep the Triumph on the road. Until then, keep the posts flowing...

I feel your pain. This article just showed up in the Allentown Morning Call today about Leiby's Restaurant at the intersection of PA 309 and PA 443. Peg and I had just been there this summer, and felt that the service was no longer of their normal standards. But the ice cream was really the reason to stop there, with teaberry being a favorite, but great rum raisin and many others as well. My buddies and I would often stopp there on the way back from rounds of golf in that area. Hopefully someone else will reopen it and improve the service.

You and your Dad are in my thoughts. My Dad would have turned 92 this coming Friday. He was called overseas on his birthday, December 19, 1941, while celebrating his 26th birthday in Jackson Mississippi. We lost him over 15 years ago, but he is still in our thoughts as well. They were the greatest generation, and there are fewer of them still here each day.

Denny, I figured you knew just about everything... A lot of cool and rare cars there. They always attract attention when they appear at car shows. My neighbor had a BMW Isetta up until they had an accident that they got hit in the front end. After working their way out the windows they went to a conventional car.

Actually, I pulled the fascia in the middle of the dash to make it easier for me to pull the gauge after I broke the capillary tube that connects to the thermostat. Since the opening allows the cooling system to dump, the car can't be run until the sensor goes back in. We will see how mechanical I am when the gauge comes back from the shop...

Has anyone visited this Microcar Museum? It looks interesting, and probably needs to be added to any future trip into Georgia for me...

Becky, My new key ring arrived and it is a Beauty. I will probably use if for my newly cut original key blank for the TR3. Right now the dash is half out awaiting the return of the repaired temperature gauge, and have the final two replacement knobs on my desk right now, so I hope to have it all back together and running again in about a week. Thanks again for keeping us all together and partying.

Another great issue team. I have just started to graze my way through and I have already found memories as well as items to file away for future trips. The Schoodic article talked about a Navy base, which I believe may be the one my Dad stumbled us into on a vacation drive in the 1960's. It was the first time I knew anything about fortifications on the eastern seaboard in WWII. I was amazed as I had always felt that our country was safe from anything. I have gotten older and maybe wiser, but thoughts of how I felt back then was very soothing. The photos from the Ben-Hur route show the types of locations I am always hoping to find on a trip, so there I know there are still 100's, no 1000's, of places I need to visit in the USA. And I wish I had gotten this issue a few weeks earlier when I was in Mystic CT. Oh well, we just need to head back to try Kitchen Little Restaurant. And many thanks to Denny Gibson for his fascinating article about the history of our National Road in Ohio. Now I need to get back to the issue to read about Alaska, Mr. Toad, and much more. No matter how much I appreciate the internet, a beautiful magazine like American Road is still better, as I can lie on the couch and read at my own pace without incoming messages, screen savers, or pop-ups.
