  1. One place I really liked for lunch was in Old Town. It was a former ranch bunkhouse, and I believe the name was Alfredo's They often have jazz in the evening, but we were not able to make any of the evenings due to our son's AF schedule. It sounds like an educational and busy time. Enjoy!
  2. Well, the weekend is over. I posted a few of my hundreds of Awkscht Fescht photos on-line. You can either just peruse the photos as they are, or go to the 2008 Das Awkscht Fescht album to see the thumbnails to click, or watch a slideshow in the order of the three days of the show. Lots of different cars to have driven on the American Road...
  3. Anyone who is within driving range of Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley this weekend should stop by Macungie Park on Route 100 west of Allentown. This is the 45th year of one of America's largest car show. You can see some details at of this year's show, featuring the DeSoto cars. The flea market, craft tents, and food booths are great as well, but it is the great location with so many special cars that drove the American roads over many years that make this event so special. You can see me and TR3B arriving last year for the Saturday show on YouTube at about the 2 minute 40 second mark. I will be driving the Triumph there again Friday and Saturday this weekend, and then will work the America On Wheels museum tent on Sunday. If you stop in, please say "Hi".
  4. Denny, Thanks for the great photos. I especially liked the 2-Way T and the yellow racer. Always interesting seeing your reports. Thanks again.
  5. Dave, What great photos. The flowers and water and mountains are surely what we all think of on a scenic drive. And that Chevron find takes me back as well. My old garage just going back to the 70's is now a clothing boutique, and not nearly as much fun as visiting the old shop. Thanks for the moments of nostalgic bliss.
  6. Chris, I would love to be able to track articles based on a map of the US. What a wonderful idea.
  7. Just a quick request: When this is being done, could a sort by State or Region be included? For those of us who might not know of a route, being able to find it when planning a trip to a general area may be a big help as well. Thanks for your consideration to this marvelous project.
  8. What a great day! First I took the Triumph out with my American Road key chain hanging from the ignition and it ran like a top. I think it is finally ready for some longer trips. Then I get home and the new issue has arrived, and the first item on the cover is New Mexico Turquoise. In my Reese's Pieces album there are several photos from the Turquoise Trail, Tinkertown, and Madrid. It is a fun stretch of road that is just begging for something more exciting then the normal rental car I had on that vacation. I am hoping that our son gets moved back to Albuquerque by the USAF for a stint in 2009 so we have an excuse visit that area again. And the rest of the issue has so many other cool articles that I need to get back to, especially the Gold Belt in Colorado. Thanks to all for another excellent issue.
  9. This was a fun trip for me to follow. My first two lane trip with Peg was about 10 years ago and included parts of the Lincoln Highway from Gettsburg, but we continued west to Fallingwater and Pittsburg, then went to State College and Boalsburg for the arts festivals. Our son was playing in the Jr. Olympic Volleyball Nationals in New Orleans and did not want parents along as he was a HS sophomore and felt we would get in his way. We dropped him and some teammates at the Harrisburg Airport, and then returned there a few days later to pick them up, so we just did a partial lap of PA instead of going home. Thanks for reviving some very good memories... Thanks for your daily reports. (as always)
  10. Denny, You are a braver (or more foolish) man than me to drive into Time Square. That is a walking tour for me. Good luck on finding a celebration in Philly. I will be going to the fireworks at the IronPigs baseball game Thursday night here in Allentown. I really enjoyed your report today...and I look forward to the rest of the holiday report.
  11. Sorry to hear that we missed the cut this trip. We will need to send more lobbyists your way in the future. Have a great trip! (I do remember one great July 4th in a big city...1976, in London with a band concert of American Music in Hyde Park, and a great fireworks display over the Thames.)
  12. Denny, Although near by, I have never ventured into Philly on the 4th. But there are fireworks and more there on the date. Check out here for more ideas... They often have events at Penn's Landing, the Art Museum, and there is to be a wedding at Independence Hall featuring the gentleman who is the normal city Ben Franklin with his bride dressed as Betsy Ross. They are actually getting married with Mayor Nutter presiding and music by Peter Nero and the Philly Pops. I am not sure how open the event will be though. Good luck with your planning. I want to get down soon to see the Simeon Foundation Museum that just opened this month...great race cars in cool dioramas.
  13. Thanks so much Dave... I will be flying to Fairbanks the end of August, after a day in Fairbanks we meet up with a Princess Cruise group for motorcoach and train to Denali, Mt. McKinley, and Anchorage, then boarding the ship including stops in Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan, then landing in Vancouver. We will stay there two days before flying back home, so I can do a bit of driving around Vancouver while we are there, but not American roads... Thanks again.
  14. Most of my travel on trips ends up being in a rental car as I normally end up flying to an area for the vacation, then rent a car for the road trip before flying home. Most day trips are taken using my 2004 Acura TSX, a comfortable cruising sedan that is not a great performer, but is not a barge either. When just driving local back roads without any real destination, or going to work at America on Wheels, I like to take Fagin.
  15. Dave, Great off road reflections. I could picture 'ole Bo marking his land as my dog's had done for years. I sure miss having a dog around after having them for over 35 years. And if you found any articles on Triumphs, or other little British Cars, I would love to have them for my library. I also have great interest in cars like the Muntz Jet, and on old Indy 500 races, so probably any issue would be a welcome addition. Thanks for the offer, and pet Bo once for me. Now to go shop for a longer lens for the upcoming cruise - land vacation in Alaska...
  16. Steve, Welcome to the home of Road Geeks. I have already bookmarked your site for perusal at me leisure, and look forward to learning what you have to share. You will love the magazine, and find that you fit into this group quite well. Enjoy the Ride!
  17. Dave, Due to other commitments and being away from computer access, I have not yet followed all of your posts, but I really am waiting for the book. Who do you see in the roll of the adventurous trailblazer? I was thinking Harrison Ford, but he probably looks too old. Congratulations on your adventure and endeavor!
  18. From the album: Reese's Photo Pieces

This is one of a series of photos I took in May 2008 of an abandoned drive-in movie theater. It is in Shertz TX on FM 78 by Randolph AFB.
  19. From the album: Reese's Photo Pieces

Although this is not on an American Road, it is a cool car on a side shopping street in the Virgin Islands
  20. Brian, Work like this is why I have respected your opinions when I was traveling from Logan to Jackson Hole. Thanks again for sharing your love for 89 and your talents with us all.
  21. From the album: America on Wheels - Allentown PA

This new museum features part of the original structure of Arbogast and Bastian meat company as the offices, and magnificent modern exhibit space for cars, truck, motorcycles, bicycles, and plenty of video screens showing vintage drag racing, the opening of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and much, much more!
  22. From the album: America on Wheels - Allentown PA

of America on Wheels includes a Mack Truck, a Segway, and the Zora-1 Corvette.
