  1. I must admit that since the advent of Facebook, I spend more time there and on Flickr. I still am traveling, and volunteering at America On Wheels Museum in Allentown. I moved from the city in November of 2015 to the Allentown Suburb of Lower Macungie. This meant demolishing my old slot car layout, and when we moved into our new house, I had to do a lot of work in the basement to set up my new slot car layout. Some of the features on the layout are based on the Lehigh Valley of PA, and things I have seen while traveling the US. The evolution of the new layout can be seen in my photo album on Flickr. I also have made a recent video on YouTube to show the progress of progress. If you are in the region, contact me and I may be around to show you this "roadside attraction" in my basement.
  2. I guess most of you think I have disappeared as it has been a long time since I posted here. In the last 6 months we have sold our house and moved, and then traveled to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. The move required me to dismantle my slot car track and to sell the TR3B, so I went whole-heartedly into photographing our trip, mostly with my new Olympus EM-1 camera. If anyone wants to see some of the photographs from the trip, I would love to have you visit the album at https://www.flickr.com/photos/brooklands/albums/72157666233038265. I don't when my next trip in the US will happen, but when it does, I will be asking advice once again.

  4. It has been a bit since I posted here, but then I have not been on the American Road much lately except for a trip to New Mexico this past fall. I am having my morning coffee in my Midpoint Café mug this morning that I picked up on that trip while eating in Adrian, Texas. But I thought some of you might be interested in the newest exhibit at America On Wheels in Allentown PA. We are showing "Gettin' the Job Done - The Evolution of the Pickup Truck". There are some pretty cool vehicles in this show including two Hudsons for Alex, a Corvair Rampside, a Studebaker Champ, a Diamond T, a REO, and even a Mack. The displays keep evolving as well as more details keep appearing in the Restoration Education Center too thanks to contributions from Keith Flickinger and Nicoli Bulgari. You can see some recent photos of some of the changes in my Flickr album.
  5. Dave, Glad to "help". Actually, rather than drive upon landing, we took a National Express bus from Heathrow to Bath and spent four days there before getting the rental car. And we took two tours in small tour buses while in Bath. I sat in the front behind the driver's left shoulder on those trips to orient myself to driving on the left while seated on the right, and I think it really helped. I had more trouble coming back to the US and driving that night to pick up dinner. I had to follow taillights for a couple of blocks before I really got re-oriented. But the traffic in the isles is much worse than I remembered from 1976, when I picked up the rental in downtown London, and dropped it off at Heathrow. This time I dropped the car in Bury St. Edmunds, and got a ride with our son to a hotel just outside of Heathrow, and rode the bus to the terminal in the morning. It all worked well. Let me know when you are planning the trip...and Merry Christmas to you.
  6. Good to hear from you Dave, We are already planning our next trip, although our son Mike will be back stateside in April, meaning another trip this year to Albuquerque...
  7. Peg and I recently returned from a three week trip, and 12 days of it were road trip. We flew to London and took a bus to Bath for four nights. We then picked up a Vauxhall Integra from Enterprise and drove to Cardiff, Torquay, Salisbury, Oxford, Coventry, Rugby, and Bury St. Edmunds where Enterprise dropped me off at our son's house for several days. We spent Thanksgiving in Bury, and attended several Christmas Fairs as well as town Christmas Light festivals. We visited museums, castles, a great car museum, ruins, and much more. I survived the roundabouts, and right hand drive, but sometimes had trouble with the narrow streets. But we survived, and I have put together a large number of photos (but not most of the ones I took) at http://www.flickr.co...57638324748716/. If you have time to browse through the 750+ photos, please do. It is a pleasure to be able to share our experiences, even if they were not on the American Road.
  8. Welcome Mike, and thanks for your service. I understand the commitment you made to serving the country with a son currently stationed at Midlenhall AFB and getting ready to come stateside for weaponry school in January. I look forward to learning about your travels.
  9. This new museum opened on Saturday, April 12, 2008 and has proved to be a worthwhile stop when in the Lehigh Valley. Located at Front and Hamilton Streets, the exterior incorporates part of the old Arbogast and Bastian Meat Packing Plant and a modern display facility. The exhibits change often, so the cars in this gallery may no longer be in the museum if you come to visit, but you will always find wonderful cars, bikes, motorcycles, trucks, and more at America On Wheels...www.americaonwheels.org
  10. James... Welcome to this stellar group. After joining here I received advice on Route 89, and throroughly enjoyed our trip from Jackson Wyoming to Salt Lake City, and the wonderful sites along Rt 89. I have visited your site a number of times and find it quite impressive. Enjoy the ride!!!
  11. It was so much fun to spend several hours with Denny on Sunday, and to see me appearing in his "travellog" this morning. I hope more of this group can get to America On Wheels in the near future, and allow me to share a few of my passions with others. Denny was a great audience for my constant jabber as well. Thanks for including me Denny!
  12. I know it took months of hunting. Some are local and were easy, and some are coming from the Petersen Museum in L.A. I know I helped with a lot of searches via the internet trying to track down cars we wanted... I look forward to being able to post photos of these cars soon.
  13. ...and don't ask me how I failed to capitalize the "c" in Cars in the topic name...DOH
