    Still alive? Been A While!

Good to hear from all of you. Maybe this pandemic can prompt us to exchange more information about our past and future road trips on the Forum again. The short one and two sentence posts on Facebook and Twitter just aren't very fulfilling.

Amargosa Hotel and Opera House, Death Valley Jct. CA

Thanks for sharing! These photos bring back memories. I remember staying there and seeing a show. This was, I think, in 2001. The painted rooms and the opera house are amazing.

    Neon 99

Nothing thrills highway buffs quite like a sizzling neon sign. The Spring 2018 issue of American Road takes a look at some beautiful historic neon signs on US Highway 99. What sign on US Highway 99 is your favorite (and it doesn't have to be in the issue)? Share a photo, tell us about the sign, how it made you feel the first time you saw it, and why its your favorite.

    California Agricultural Inspection Stations

Love the story Dave! We had a similar experience, but not with a plum. The offending fruit was a banana.

    Camping Checklist

I found this comprehensive camping checklist on line - many of these things (like the basic first aid kit items listed) are good to have along for any road trip. http://www.lovetheoutdoors.com/camping/Checklists.htm Becky

    A Very Nice Christmas Idea

Just a quick update - we are upholding the tradition that the members of this forum started - sending our service men and women care packages during the holidays. I'm happy to report that we sent care packages to 50 members of the Navy this holiday. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year!

  21. Hi Rick, Nice photos! Denny, yes, you should definitely go there. Thomas and I were there, way back when, doing research for Route 66: Romance of the West. That same trip we had the privilege of meeting and interviewing Joy Nevin, who once lived at Painted Desert TP. That was amazing. If you go to Holbrook, look for Joy Nevin Ave., named in her honor.

    Forgot Password Process Very Painful

Hi Jim, I will check with our webmaster to see what might be done about this issue. He's out sick today. But, as soon as he's back in the saddle, so to speak, we'll have him work on it. Thanks for letting us know.
  25. I don't know about you, but, with gas prices on the rise I'm thinking about ways to save money everyday so we can still take our road trips. (Our road trips are imperative -- if we don't take our road trips we'll end up going crazy and will likely end up spending money on doctor visits!). Here are some things we've done recently to save some dough for our road trip fund - and most have had additional benefits. The best part, I don't feel as if I'm sacrificing to achieve these savings: -Switched to a pre-paid phone plan. Savings: $40/month ($480/year). I don't have the coolest phone or the best gadgets on it, but, I can check my email, send and receive text messages, and make and receive calls all with NO roaming, NO long distance, and NO limits on calls, text, or internet usage. Additional Benefit - I no longer have to worry about how many minutes I've used because its an unlimited plan! -Started hanging laundry to dry after 15 minutes of dryer time (except for towels and sheets). I noticed a $15 savings/month for the last few months since starting this practice. Additional Benefit: Clothes seem less wrinkled (so they don't need ironing - which I don't have time to do anyway!). -I've started buying almost all cleaning products at the dollar store. The only thing I still buy name brand is the automatic shower cleaner refill (I really dislike scrubbing shower tile). If the dollar store starts carrying one of those - I'll switch in a heartbeat! My next move is to change banks - as mine just started to charge a $10 monthly fee unless one maintains a minimum $2500 in the checking account. (I mean REALLY, who wants to keep $2500 in a non-interest bearing account every month?) I look forward to hearing what other folks are doing to save cash! Becky
