Anyone else love looking at old newspaper classifieds…? Have a few more from 1970s Des Moines IA newspapers to feature in the coming weeks!
A favorite part (among many) of my Route 66 road trip, September 2009, was spotting murals & cars. This was a great combo … with a Baxter Springs MO mural & a 1987 El Camino appearing in the pic I took!
Speaking of road trips, a cousin & I are planning a day road trip this Saturday, 05/02/2015, down to Staunton IL (from Chicagoland); forecasted weather should be perfect…. Anyone want to meet?

What do you have in your vehicle(s) to play tunes?
4 vintage options: Craig, Motorola, Panasonic & Pioneer:
    Also … 3 years of the Ford Thunderbird: 1968, 1978 & 1988!

  3. That Alaska Railroad sounds great.... I'm definitely a car guy ... not all that fond of flying. The rails ... have a certain appeal ... partly b/c you can still see things as you are going along. Sometimes I wish I could just retire & start enjoying some of the things I'd love to be enjoying right now....

Subaru seems to have the “love” market cornered these days, but that wasn’t always the case, as evident in these 4 “love-related” vintage ads….
(The 4 old ads featured Tuesday had friends, help & service in mind; to see ‘em, visit the home page & choose “Automotive Daily” from the drop down menu on the right-hand side!)
Speaking of love, I’m not alone in enjoying evenings by fires … or am I part of a dying breed!?
Finally, I’ve never taken a train cross country, but maybe someday. Anyone else love old train cars, like this one, as well?

    This has always been me…
…even now, despite all the “character builders” the last 3+ years, including frustration, panic & pain-swelling (feet & left knee). Sometimes I wonder for what I’ve survived 4 open heart surgeries, but maybe someday I’ll know? It could be worse, but wish I was getting cars out for the season, traveling, etc. At least my car family (1979 & 1989 Caprice Classics) is FAR better than it was!
Potentially good news: Monday is my initial meeting with a Small Business Development consultant (a bit more on this in a post on my website, Monday, ~7a US central); looking forward to seeing if my business ideas might be viable….
Crafting keeps me positive & active: 04/19/2015 marked 3 months since I launched my website, 01/19/2015 … & 2 years + 4 months since I launched my Facebook page, 12/19/2012.
Thursday, featured 4 family-oriented ads: Dodge, VW, Porsche & Ford….
Saturday, featured 4 racing-related ads: a Raceway Park, Wrangler (featuring Dale Earnhardt), Mercury, & CAM2
& Sunday’s Special featured the Suburban, the longest continuous-use nameplate:
Speaking of the Suburban, just about any would make an awesome road trip vehicle, but I’ve never owned or rented 1. I road tripped annually 2002-2011 & share a pic each Tuesday (7a US central) on my website; here are links to pics I’ve taken during the last few journeys….

    1) available in coupe, sedan & wagon
    2) rear-wheel-drive-only nameplate
    3) great road trip car
In a close 2nd place tie: Ford LTD/Crown Victoria, Buick Roadmaster & El Camino lines!

I’ve a love-hate relationship with photos of vehicles abandoned. Don’t like that vehicles are just left to sit there, but … they do make for awesome pictorial subjects. A friend took this in east-central IL:
While Thursday’s major tornado in IL did not directly affect me, it hit some areas that I’ve known virtually my whole life:

It’s “Throwback Thursday”, right? Well, “back in the day”, I hosted gatherings, inviting people from various heart- & car-related boards & groups!
~65 people (from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin & the Cleveland OH area) attended the 1st “MidSummer Chitown Gathering”, 07/26/2008 (Saturday). Pics from an attendee…
…contrast that to the 3rd (& final) “MidSummer Chitown Gathering”, 07/24/2010 (Saturday). Only a fraction of the people (farthest away was from Auburn IL)…
Then, in 2012, I hosted a cruise night:

With spring weather now (including severe thunderstorm potential the next 24 hours or so here in Chicagoland), hopefully we’re saying good bye to winter 2014-2015 for good…
…& with that, to what spring-summer-fall events are you looking forward to saying hello in 2015?
None are on my list, at the moment, at least. I have a few I’d like to attend, but with no income, probably not going to happen.
BTW, do you remember any of these 4 ads that pose a challenge?

With my 03/25/2015 pacemaker replacement incision still itching like crazy, had my 1st colonoscopy 04/07/2015, along with an endoscopy! For preliminary results & commentary [not exactly like Paul Harvey], click this link:

Family connections to historic events make those happenings a bit more personable. In this case, a friend’s grandfather drove the last Detroit-built Cadillac Eldorado:
BTW, a different theme on Thursday featured a Cadillac wagon & “El Camino”…. &, 1 of Friday’s themes will feature a 1969 Pontiac GTO raced by 2 generations.

Follow-up pacemaker replacement appointment is this Wednesday afternoon, April 1 (of all days…)! Still a bit sore in my left shoulder area; my feet pain & swelling has rejoined my left knee swelling & pain.
Also this week, hope to have a reply about my request for Small Business Development assistance.
Then, the following week … my endoscopy & colonoscopy are scheduled for Tuesday, April 7.

Included a note about my pacemaker replacement (Wednesday, 03/25/2015) on my website, with this engine image:
Adding to that: I was awake enough Wednesday evening to watch “CHiPs” & a couple new shows, but was in & out of sleep otherwise. Today (Thursday), I’ve rested & watched TV, including an hour private investigating in California, an hour sleuthing in Maine, an hour housekeeping in Pittsburgh PA, then back to California to patrol the highways & now NCAA March Madness. [if only road tripping were really THAT easy!] Have a list of things to do, but not ready to tackle much. My left shoulder area (pacemaker location) is still very sore. Luckily, my feet aren’t as swollen as they had been nor are they in pain, tho I suspect that will may change. My left knee is swollen & a bit achy, so no change there.
As for model detailing, no matter the scale, that always fascinates me … partly because I don’t have the talent or patience for it.
I’ll check in here as able.

Bet many can identify with this:
With 4 open heart surgeries & 1 pacemaker replacement, I’ve a number of roadmaps. Some scars will be refreshed when I go in for another pacemaker replacement next Wednesday, 03/25/2015; unlike last time, hopefully this WILL be a simple outpatient procedure with no overnight hospital stay…!
While watching NCAA’s March Madness on Thursday, I made some tweaks to my website & added a page for articles I’ve written:
Haven’t decided if I’m going to put all of my road trip pics there somehow or not.

I road tripped at least once a year, 2002-2011, to meet people & see family-friends. September 2009, I journeyed along Route 66 (starting out at the Lincoln Highway National Headquarters, Franklin Grove IL), meeting a lot of people & seeing a lot of sights. I made the most of the 2-week timeframe I had. I snapped this photo at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook AZ, 09/13/2009.
