I'm contemplating whether or not to appeal the disability denial; need to receive more of my medical records & speak with a lawyer...ugh. I have time for a road trip, but no $$. [best road trip moments begin when you say "hello"...!] A couple weeks ago, we had flooding rains 1 day; accumulating snow the next. Bombing at the Boston Marathon; explosions in TX & OK. A friend of 20+ years wrote me a scathing note about how bad of a friend/person I am.... Yet, someone I recently met, knowing my affinity towards older cars, suggested I start a niche business. I've contemplated that before (or some sort of road tripping or radio-related endeavor), but not sure ... so many ideas & possibilities with not enough starting $$. My future looks bleak, but sometimes determination (or something else...) kicks in. But, I need help: I'm still job-hunting; need 1 with health insurance for obvious reasons. COBRA runs out in ~2 months. Do you need help social media managing, organizing, reviewing, or researching ... something to get me out of the house a bit? We could barter.... Anyone interested in getting together? Maybe lunch, dinner or both. "Do you see what I see?" __ One Republic __ 'Stop & Stare' The recent warmer temps & sunshine, along with seeing many older vehicles out'n'about while I'm driving my "winter" 1979 Caprice Classic, have me itchin' to drive my "summer" 1989 Caprice Classic, for which I need energy to detail it. I'll probably re-instate complete insurance on it soon. With no job prospects or disability (recently received a rejection letter, but will appeal), I'll probably leave my '79 & '81 MCs in storage this season, in an attempt to try to keep them. MEANTIME, I've been "playing around" with some of my scale model cars.... Last year, I bought 2 large display cases to showcase more of my collection. When I put cars in them, however, I was disappointed at the "wasted space" created by the rather tall top/cover. It didn't bother me enough to do anything about it, though, at the time. BUT ... with the recent addition of dealer promo models & the desire to display a few more of my small scale cars, the "wasted space" became a bit of an aggravator. So, using plexiglass that Dad & Mom had, a family friend cut 2 pieces to add a "layer" to each case. Trying to figure out how to support the new level, I happened to walk past a can of Tinker Toys ... & bam, found my "posts"! I secured the Tinker Toys to the plexiglass & the bottom of the case with tape. While the Tinker Toys take up a bit too much space (to my liking) on the lower level, it's better to virtually double my "display space" instead of buying a 3rd case ... for now. With that, I've had a bit more energy (& 'fight') to start working on some projects & found this note written by a friend ~9 years ago: "My friend, if I could give you one gift, I would give you the ability to see yourself as others see you. Then you would realize what a truly special person you are." Made me smile, but my hunch is most of us can't see ourselves the way others seem to.... "Tough times" make that harder. While family & friends are discussing engagements, kids, pets, classic car season, gatherings & events, home & car purchases, adventures, opportunities, etc., I'm watching my "glass floor" shatter.... If it wasn't completely official yet, it became so 12/12/2012, when I put the license plates on it: WELCOME to the family, 1989 Caprice Classic Brougham! The same day, I put the keys for both of my Caprice Classics on the "'Caprice' w/CC emblem" key rings that a friend sent me. Now, I just need to give my 1989 Caprice Classic its 1st detail.... As I put on the plates, I was excited but still had a twinge of sadness, which probably will never completely go away. This 1989 Caprice Classic just sort of fell into my lap. A friend & I went to look at it, figuring it would be nothing more than an exercise in determining what I would NOT want in an '89 CC. In fact, it was just the opposite. Looking it over, it became clear that it was in top mechanical shape with a few cosmetic issues ... & the price was good. The seller actually lowered it for me b/c he wanted me to have it given my "car history". Brought it home, with the help of the same friend, 10/26/2012. 1979 Caprice Classic & 1989 Caprice Classic plates; which season do you prefer? I was able to make a bit more "connection" w/my newest acquisition b/c I found some original documentation in the 1989 Caprice Classic's glove compartment.
