Yellowstone Trail Heritage Day

04/12/23 @ 12:00 am

Yellowstone Trail Heritage Day is an annual celebration of the historic Yellowstone Trail which was the first coast-to-coast automobile route across the Northern United States.

At the Yellowstone Trail Heritage Day celebration on Saturday, August 13, 2022 visitors are in for a treat with three different car shows. A vintage and classic car show at Lakefront Park, there will be a Britfest Car Show coordinated by the Minnesota MG Group and an antique show by the Twin Cities Model A Ford Club.

Some of the other Saturday activities include a pancake breakfast, geocaching, hospitality centers in Hudson and Baldwin, museum tours, plus the Yellowstone Trail Poker Run and Sociability Drive thru St. Croix County.

A highlight this year is a book signing event with Yellowstone Trail historians and authors John and Alice Ridge. Their new book “A Good Road from Plymouth Rock to Puget Sound: A Modern Guide to Driving the Historic Yellowstone Trail, 1912-1930” is the definitive, most complete book of the history of the Yellowstone Trail.

About the Yellowstone Trail: In 1912, a group of small-town businessmen in South Dakota undertook an ambitious project to create a useful automobile route, the Yellowstone Trail, across America. This was at a time when roads weren’t marked, there were few maps and slippery mud was the usual road surface. The Yellowstone Trail Association located a route, motivated road improvements, produced maps and folders to guide the traveler, and promoted tourism along its length. It became a leader in stimulating tourist travel to the Northwest and motivating good roads across America.
