rudkipon66
Quinn and I have been going to the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival (fka King Biscuit Blues Festival) sinc 1997 and have seen some amazing blues acts there. It is across the Big Muddy from the Mississippi Delta and 30 miles from Clarksdale, MS, the epicenter of the Mississippi Delta Blues. This year is the 25th Anniversary of the festival and, as you can see by the lineup below, they have pulled out all the stops! Below is the list--it costs $25.00 for a three day pass, but I ask you, when was the last time you paid $25.00 to see B.B. King? MUCH LESS the other amazing artists--Dr. John, Charlie Musselwhite (the KING of the blues harmonica) Taj Mahal, Bobby Rush, the immortal Pinetop Perkins (97 years old and STILL going strong)Marcia Ball, Lonnie Shields, Michael Burks, and one hard working bluesman named Willie Cobbs. The festival is held October 7-9, on the Mississippi River Levee in downtown Helena, AR. For information visit the festival website, http://www.bluesandheritagefest.com, or www.cathead.biz (which will have all sorts of information about everything going on in the Mississippi Delta.) Also, Mississippi has put up markers commemorating its blues legends on the Mississipi Blues Trail (http://www.msbluestrail.org/) SGF, Kip Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival, Lockwood Stackhouse Stage Friday October 8, 2010 12:00pm Phillip Stackhouse Andy Coats Johnny Billington Berni Pearl Mississippi Spoonman Gwen White Mojo Buford Bobby Rush Saturday October 9, 2010 12:00 pm Jimmy “Duck” Holmes Rev.Robert Austin Walker John Hammond Lonnie Shields Wampus Cats Don McMinn Earnest “Guitar”Roy Thursday, October 7, 2010 Main Stage 12.00pm. 2009 Emerging Artist Winner – Heather Cross 2010 SBBS Winner – Battle of the Bands 2010 IBC Winner – Grady Champion Willie Cobbs Sterling Billingsley Band James Harman Reba Russell Paul Thorn B.B. DennyG
What an impressive lineup and what a deal. I've seen several of those performers but there are many more that I haven't. Maybe this will be the year that I make it.
