Well, look like another "lurker" decided to post just after you. I think the

video is something I will pass on this time. I wonder if maybe the "stripper"

mentioned meant someone who travels the well known "strips". If that is the

case, then I guess the message is on topic. ;-)

Alright - this is starting to PISS ME OFF. I went to the young lady's

website so I could critique her video and give her a well-rounded, fair,

objective and completely unbaised opinion on her possible future in the

exotic entertainment profession -- and I'll be darned if she didn't ask me

for $29.95 a month on my credit card before I could even get started!! Of

all the nerve.....

Don't feel bad about 51 between Cairo and

Carbondale, Rob - I've been over that senction at

least 4 times in the last 3 or 4 years and I STILL

haven't hit that particular section.

I think the problem lies in that the feeders into

I-57 around Dongola in the north and Mound City in the

south are designed in such a way as to feed you off 51

onto the Interstate, even if you are watching for the

road. And once on I-57, you're sort of stuck for a

while, until you come to the U S 51 off ramp that puts

you back onto 51.

I'm headed for Memphis in December - I WILL FIND

THAT EVER ELUSIVE SECTION OF 51 THIS TRIP - I know it

exists and will take photos to prove it!!! LOL

Happy Traveling.

Kip,

It's great to hear people talk about a stretch of road that I spent a lot of

time on while growing up. I spent my "formative years" in Marion, Illinois,

about 16 miles east of Carbondale. If I had a dollar for every time I've been

To Giant City (just east of the bustling metropolis of Makanda) I'm sure I'd

have enough to buy both of us a few beers in the tavern of your choice.

Like you said, Giant City is a great place for rock climbing and all kinds of

outdoor activities.

You used to be able to catch U.S. 51 right over the old Mississippi River

bridge from Missouri (U.S. 60 crosses from Missouri then immediately turns

right to cross the Ohio)..it'll take you through Cairo, Future City (where

Henry Townshend, say he, has never been), all the hot spots...then on to

Carbondale! There is a park there called Giant City which is really cool in

a natural setting climb rocks sort of way...Tsingtao, Kip

Kip,

You can STILL come across the Mississippi on that

bridge - routes U S 60/U S 62. However, if you have a

weak heart it's not recommended - and neither is the U

S 51 bridge over the Ohio. I went west into Missouri

recently across tthe 60/62 bridge and damn near had

heart failure when I met a tractor trailer rig coming

east bound - on the levee - that is damn narrow thru

there. Across the levees on 60/62 and the 51 bridge -

here's a web site that will curl your hair:

http://www.thom.org/gallery/unnat/ILCRtwobridges

I'm not sure if these bridges have any names - all I

can find are Cairo Mississippi River Bridge for U S

60/62 bridge and Cairo Ohio River Bridge for U S 51/60

bridge.

Hudsonly,

Alex B

You used to be able to catch U.S. 51 right over the old Mississippi River

bridge from Missouri (U.S. 60 crosses from Missouri then immediately turns

right to cross the Ohio)..it'll take you through Cairo, Future City (where

Henry Townshend, say he, has never been), all the hot spots...then on to

Carbondale! There is a park there called Giant City which is really cool in

a natural setting climb rocks sort of way...Tsingtao, Kip

WOrthy of note, in the north the original 61 paralelled I-35 (it is 261 or

361 to Duluth...then it followed the North Shore to the canadian border

(that road is now SR 61)...until Tim's book is out, William McKeen's book

"Highway 61"is a pretty good travelogue of the Blues Highway...Tsingtao, Kip

Tims site is probably the best "guide"...I dont think that there are any

"guides" published for 61 right now (except McKeen's book)--if anyone knows

of one, I would love to see it! When you get down to the Delta of

Mississippi there is a book called "Blues Travelling" that is well worth

securing...Tsingtao, Kip

Most of 61 is still driveable, is still certified, and goes through some

really neat places...Missouri may provide its biggest detours; the road used

to follow what is now US 67 out of St. Louis down past Fredricktown then cut

over to Jackson to what is now 61...now it follows what was until the mid

50's or so SR 25...south of Sikeston it hooks up with the Interstate, and in

Arkansas south of the intersection of hy 63 it hooks up with the

interstate...the old alignments are there, however and relatively easy to

find...more later...Tsintgao Kip

Kip:

Just go to http://www.ebay.com When you get there, type the item

number 3540898720 into the "What to you want to see?" box, or

whatever the name of their search box is. Click on the Go or Continue

button, and there you are. But unless the thing is re-posted due to

lack of bids, I think its closed.

Kip,

That auction is closed but I have another place where you could buy the book.

Go to:

http://www.alibris.com/search/search.cfm?q...%20of%20destiny

%3B%20the%20trails%20that%20shaped%20a%20nation%2E&pauth=Waitley%2C%20Douglas&pi

sbn=&pbest=5%2E45&pbestnew=1000000%2E00&pqty=17&pqtynew=0&matches=17&qsort=p

There are 17 copies of that book available ranging in price from $5.45 to

$24.95.

That web site, www.alibris.com is a great price to find old books at reasonable

prices.

Hi Kip,

Yep, the auction ended at $10.50 including the shipping. Sorry you

missed it. I wish that I had found it earlier in the week. Not sure

if that was a real good buying price (it seemed so), but Mike sure

knows his stuff and is a great resource to ask in such cases!

He recently tipped me off on two great Lincoln Highway postcards that

were rare, unused, in mint shape AND at a very fair price I might add!

Hi Mike!

Thanks Bro, for the tip on that link for a source of old books!

I bookmarked the site and will be sure to refer to it next time.

Rock On!

God Bless and Happy Trails.

Cheers to all of you who got this going one year back. I think those

number quite respectable. Particularly so when the associated

magazine did not really exist for the first half of that year. I

imagime awareness of both egroup & magazine will increase as the

second year rolls on.

Congrats
