American Road Trip Talk (Podcast)– Nathan Schock: Corn Power Click here to listen... (11:00) Clickhere to download... It's highway robbery every time we pull up to the gas station. Whether it's political turmoil in the Middle East or pure greed on the part of oil companies, there always seems to be an excuse for jacking up the prices Well there are some folks in the heartland of America working to break that dependence on foreign fuels at a company called POET, a company formed in the mid-80's to turn corn into ethanol, liquid fuel that has been included in most of our gasoline. In one of our past TripTalks I interviewed Tom Holm who went on a 10,000 mile Eco Trek across the country in vehicles powered solely by cellulosic ethanol, derived from farm waste like corn husks, leaves and stubble. (EcoTrek TripTalk ) POET provided Tom with that fuel and in this podcast I speak with Nathan Schock their PR director about producing ethanol to break our addiction to foreign fuels. Claude Bell was a man who could dream bigger than most men can imagine. Two enormous concrete dinosaurs that command the Mohave desert town of Cabazon, California are silent witnesses to his hard work, persistence and vision. The desert dinos were featured in our spring 2011 American Road Magazine column The World’s Largest Things.

Erika Nelson is the artist who created the traveling museum of the World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Replicas of the World's Largest Things. The picture is a "metaphoto" of the tiny replica in the foreground and the real monster in the background. -

This is the second dinosaur that Claude Bell created in the desert near Cabazon, CA. Unfortunately he died in 1989 before he could finish it. The monster is over 65 ft. tall and has room for offices inside but was not finished completely at the time of the builder's death. Ironically the whole complex was bought by an evangelical Christian group that now uses it as a display supporting Creationism although they have not altered the behemoths that Calude Bell labored to create. The T Rex is fenced off at the rear to avoid entrance to unfinished belly of the beast. -

This is the first one he built on his own over nearly 18 years at a cost of $250,000. Inside the belly of the beast is a museum and a second story office space. -
