Photos of the original SR86 alignment between Willcox and Benson AZ, via Cochise and Dragoon.
This alignment of 86 existed from 1936, when SR86 was established as a US80 'cut-off' in SE Arizona, until about 1942 when the present 1-10 alignment through Texas Canyon was completed.
This original alignment was not paved, and parts remain dirt to this day.

Two photos of the "Old Gardiner Road" which runs from the Mammoth Hot Springs area of Yellowstone National Park--the original park entrance--five miles north to Gardiner MT, west of today's US 89 alignment.

Some shots I took between Tucson and Benson AZ, including the famous Marsh Station Road segment of old 80.

The Great Plains--US 56 heading pretty much straight-arrow to the southwest through southwest Kansas, the Oklahoma 'panhandle', and northeastern New Mexico.  Came within a few miles of the southeast corner of Colorado and right after crossing from Oklahoma into New Mexico (the shortest state-to-state land border in the US, BTW) we were close enough to the northwest corner of Texas to spit into it!
