The Indiana Lincoln Highway Association have gathered historical photos surrounding the nations first coast to coast highway. The original highway passed through LaPorte, Indiana in 1915 and some of these images capture that experience.

The Museum of Neon Art is located in Los Angeles, CA and that is where the first neon sign appeared in the US in 1923. The pictures in the album represent some of the neon signs preserved by the museum. The American Road TripTalk was with Kim Koga, museum director in 2011.

Rollin Southwell has created www.lincolnhighway.com to preserve the history of the Lincoln Highway, US 50 as it passes through the central Nevada desert. He calls it the Oldest, Loneliest Highway in America.

Some wags say the camel is a horse designed by a committee. The same might be said for the Jefferson Highway! This long forgotten but now much cherished classic American highway once stretched from the pines of Manitoba, Canada to the sultry palms of New Orleans. Mike Conlin, a map maker by trade, is the president of the Jefferson Highway Association with a passion for reconnecting this legendary thoroughfare. The association’s inaugural meeting was chronicled in the spring issue 2011 of American Road Magazine.

Pops Restaurant is a modern salute to the history of Route 66. They created their own roadside icon, a 66' tall pop bottle decked in LED lights. The restaurant itself is unique in that it serves over 700 variety of soda much of which is on display in the space-age glas restaurant in Arcadia, OK.

Up in Cut Bank, Montana it gets mighty cold and to honor that fact, Ron Gustafson, the former owner of the Glacier Gateway Inn and Plaza built a 27' tall penguin. It was featured in the Holiday Tour Winter 2010 issue of American Road Magazine. Ron now owns an RV Park on the Gulf of Mexico. No more penguin patties for him!

Illinois is home to three of our nation's top executives: Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and Ronal Reagan all called it home and Pres. Barak Obama live there for a long time as a member of Congress.
