Old US 36 takes a drink, 1

The US Army Corps of Engineers built Raccoon Lake as a flood-control project in Parke County. They built a new, straight, elevated US 36 and buried Old 36 underwater.

 

Driving west, here's where Old 36 ends. They piled a mound of dirt onto a short bridge and that was that.
