Celebrating our two-lane highways of yesteryear…And the joys of driving them today!

Jefferson, Ia On The Lh

Recommended Posts

Okay, just returned from the Springfield, IL Route 66 Festival, another outstanding roadie event. Getting back to my recently-completed LH tour across IA, here's a shot taken in downtown Jefferson, our first passport stop on Sunday....Bliss

I posted the above yesterday but didn't see it today in the "view new posts" section which is why I'm replying to myself with another shot of Jefferson. This one is the west side of the downtown courthouse square.....Bliss

I like that photo better....more of the town in view.

Got some more good stuff?

Here's a rainroof shot of the old LH between Jefferson and Denison. This was the longest leg of the motor tour. Very enjoyable.....Bliss

If that shot was in B/W you would believe it was taken in 1925!

Yep, it felt like 1925 at times on this motor tour. Here's a road and landscape shot heading west to Denison. Imagine being at this spot during one of Iowa's winter snow storms....Bliss

I didn't think there were any Ben Franklin stores left!

Pat and I went to one in Park Rapids, Minnesota back in June:

And that Ben Franklin hasn't changed since I could first remember going in there in the mid-1970's. I think on our '77 trip, I got a toy Ben Franklin semi-truck to keep me occupied while on vacation. I'll bet that thing's still over at my dad's house in box somewhere......

That would be worth finding, Pat. When we auctioned Mom's house about 5 years ago the sale included several of my childhood steel toys and one small truck, for example, brought $150.

Almost to Denison, here's a shot entering the outskirts of town. Denison is much larger than I imagined and I was curious to see the town where the mom of one of my best kid friends grew up. Big Blue and I got a "thumbs up" from the local cops who pulled up beside us....Bliss

We headed to Woodbine after the passport stop in Denison where the tour enjoyed an excellent burger and dog lunch. Also received a free tour T-shirt. This was my final stop on the motor tour and I headed back to Missouri after lunch. What a fun motor tour!.......Bliss
