Daniel's Marker De-faced - Literally

OK, this isn't exactly a National Road story but it does concern a sidebar to a recent Our National Road article. Pictures of both of Daniel Boone's grave sites appear in the Spring 2008 American Road. The original (and possibly current) burial site sported a large bronze plaque. Roadside America reports that the plaque was recently stolen, chopped up, and sold for about a hundred dollars. The 1915 plaque pictured Daniel wearing a coonskin cap which historians insist he never wore while living. Now, in addition to debating whether Daniel's really there or not, we can debate whether the replacement should have a coonskin cap.
