Chain Of Rocks Bridge

Recommended Posts

Anyone know how well the old Chain of Rocks bridge may be fairing with the current flood. That old gal has survived many floods but sooner or later the rip-rap around the supports in the river is going to play out and the old girl will go into the river.

I don't guess anyone would dispute the fact a bridge with a curve in the middle of it was not the best idea, but I'd sure hate to see it go down.

I didn't make it as far as the river yesterday but did stop in nearby Mitchell, IL, on my way to Litchfield. No one in the area seemed particularly concerned about the bridge and a group of 30-40 66ers, including, I believe, forum member RoadDog, will be driving accross it in a few hours. At some point, we should have a first hand report.
