DennyG
In case anyone hadn't guessed, there is a day two and it is now posted (Day two, all through?) at the same place. Pat picked some great roads for this and I know we all appreciate the work he did reserving the tour slots, checking the motels, etc. Big thanks, Pat. I have your site now added to my RSS feed on Google, so I was duly notified as soon as Day 2 was available! Glad you were able to attend along with Kent and Mary Sue as well. To those who were unfortunately not able to attend this time, start thinking spring NOW and plan on joining us for our next adventure! Remember, these trips are informal road cruises open to everyone who would like to get out for a weekend and see some neat two-lane roads with fellow AR enthusiasts. Keep the Show on the Road!
Denny, Thanks for the write up and photos on your site! You did get at least one fall colors shot...I appreciate that! I looked at the 1926 Clason’s map of Illinois (I’m finding having those maps on the web is even handy for me!) and was surprised to note that Santa Claus was on the map. I got the impression that maybe it dated from only as early as the mid 30’s. How come everyone left you after only two days, and the waitress didn’t want to tell you where the Blue Grass Museum was? What's with that! Fun trip...thanks again for sharing it! Keep the Show on the Road!
DennyG
It definitely looked like fall but it didn't look like bright-red make-ya-go-ahhh gorgeous fall. I think I was expecting too much. The upfront commercialism (e.g., the Candy Castle) started in the 1930s but the town has gone by the name Santa Claus since 1856. How come everyone left you after only two days...Some folks tolerance level for me is lower than others. ...and the waitress didn’t want to tell you where the Blue Grass Museum was? What's with that! I suspect she may have been a plant from the Rosine Chamber of Commerce but I've got no proof.
brownwho63
Pat picked some great roads for this and I know we all appreciate the work he did reserving the tour slots, checking the motels, etc. Big thanks, Pat. We'll second the appreciation vote. Lots of work involved in setting up and conducting a cruise. Here's another photo from the weekend. We stopped at the bridge on our way to Indy last Friday....Bliss http://americanroadmagazine.com/forum/inde...=si&img=
beckyrepp
It looks like the cruise was AWESOME! I'm so envious that you were on the road while we were back at the American Road Garage. Thanks for sharing the pics! Becky
Jennifer
Well, it looks like you guys were having as much fun as adults can have with their cloths on! Jennifer leading the gang on a geocaching adventure in a graveyard......she must have been a fun date! Keep the Show on the Road I sure am! I hope Pat appreciates your comment! hehe
DennyG
I'm not slow. I'm simply savoring the latest issue of AR which is why it was just this morning that I read the Arkansas Hot Springs article. The Pluto brand name, on the bottle shown on page 19, seemed familiar and, sure enough, reading the label's small print indicated that this "Nature's Laxative" came from French Lick, Indiana, where the Bremers lead us in November. The Pluto Spring wasn't actually at the West Baden Springs Hotel, which we toured, but just down the road at the French Lick Springs Hotel where the Casino is. The water is no longer bottled; Reportedly because it contains Lithium and Lithium is now a controlled substance. However the hotel still advertises "classic Pluto Mineral Baths". Flaunting the law, newly installed Lithium filters, or are those baths not as classic as they'd have us believe?
