Seattle, Wa Western Yt Terminus Tidbit

WSDOT (Washington State Department of Transportation) is working on replacing the earthquake-vulnerable and functionally obsolete double-deck Alaska Way freeway viaduct and it looks like the favored choice for that replacement is a deep-bored tunnel. This will be an interesting and well worthy project to follow as everything works its way through and once complete, and assuming that the tunnel is in fact what will ultimately be built, will really open up the Puget Sound shoreline area at the Yellowstone Trail's western end, making for an ending that will be far more fitting and proper than what is there now.

 

Has there been any contact between the Yellowstone Trail guys and the City of Seattle and/or WSDOT?

 

Note that the Great Northern Railway (now BNSF) drilled a paralleling tunnel under downtown Seattle between their King Street Station and the north end of what is now the viaduct, bypassing Alaska Way, over 100 years ago.

As far as I know (and I don't really know much), there's been no contact about it. I very seriously doubt that the City of Seattle has even heard of such a thing as the Yellowstone Trail. The only mention of it that I know of is well outside of the city on the brick road portion.

We informed them about the YT and got info about the Red Brick Road part of the YT.

 

They have interest about but no real commitment to the YT.

One of those corridors in the Sunset Hyway, partions of which were the YT. See http://your.kingcounty.gov/kcdot/roads/wcm...ldSunsetHwy.pdf

 

But the Red Brick Road area of the YT is not included and contacting the Corridors people would be potentially helpful. Any volunteers?
