Fortified Town Hall On The National Parks Highway (us2)

Recommended Posts

My National Parks Highway scouting trip in May was cut short by a family emergency. That one has been resolved, and so I want to return, first to a few of the many sites I didn’t have time to share. Then in late August I hope to do another jaunt on the NPH.

The map below shows US2 (formerly the National Parks Highway and Yellowstone Trail) between Waterville and Spokane, with the old alignments in blue. Earlier posts have shown these old sections as I traveled them in May. Creston is near the upper center of the map.

Let’s start with the famed Fortified Town Hall in Creston, Washington, on the National Parks Highway. My photo below needs a good caption. Any ideas?

Alex,

Good one! Like "Pay your taxes.......or else!"

Harry Tracy, who was once part of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's Hole-in-the-Wall gang, was killed (actually shot himself after being wounded by a posse) outside Creston. Maybe the folks at the town hall wanted a little extra protection!
