DennyG
I never got to ride on the Delta Queen but I did get to sleep on her over the 4th of July weekend. I'm posting in the Dixie Highway forum because that's how I got there. The Queen is now operating as a hotel in Chattanooga and I drove from Knoxville to Chattanooga using the Dixie Highway Tennessee Connector. The journal is HERE. mobilene
I just killed 20 minutes trying to find that non-through old alignment you found, to no avail. But other than that, I enjoyed this trip report. Sounds like the DQ staff has really made a good go of it. jim

The interruption is at N35 45.175 W84 47.521. I've also added a photo to that panel of the journal that shows a little of what's on the other side of the guardrail. Google Earth makes it looks like the road continues after the cut but it sure doesn't look like it now. The Delta Queen staff is excellent and they are keeping the old girl alive and as unchanged as possible. While on the Queen, I learned that her younger sisters aren't doing as well and are basically mothballed. Here is a recent news article and their not so recent website. mobilene
Hey, thanks for the coordinates! I feel so much better now. I see that the RR crossing is one of those pesky "jog left and over the tracks" kind that was always oh so safe. No wonder it's closed.
