  1. I always wondered why, of all the bridges in Indiana, they named that one after him!
  2. David Wolf is an astronaut from Indiana. My ex-wife was in the Indiana Air National Guard at the same time he was. She was the base photographer in Terre Haute and used to take his "mug shots" that they put on his record when he was up for promotion.
  3. I've never been to TR at this time of year and so have never seen the ice on Trail 3! That was pretty cool.
  4. Oh man! I've got to go see that!
  5. I went to school with a girl whose dad or uncle or something part-owned the Avanti factory, too. (I'm from South Bend.) But I didn't get a field trip to the Avanti assembly line!
  6. I found this cache of photos from the Studebaker National Museum from a trip I took 2 years ago. Sorry no captions on the photos -- my memories of what's what have faded over time. I can identify the Lark and the Avanti and the Bendix (the silver car) but that's about it. http://americanroadmagazine.com/forum/inde...um&album=31

    Studebakers

From a 2006 visit to the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend
  8. Two words: revenue generation. I read an article not too long ago saying the best way to reduce (though not eliminate) red-light runners is to make the yellow last longer. (They obviously haven't been to Indianapolis, where the rule is, "If the guy in front of me can make it through the yellow, so can I!") But with the red-light cameras tends to go a shortening of the yellow, so more people get caught. It's a big load of crapola. jim
  9. Wow, Denny, looks comfy. Might try it sometime.
  10. My kids bug me to take them camping and I've only managed it once. Camping's great when the weather is right but other than that I just haven't enjoyed it. I can see that camping would let me take long road trips inexpensively, and I love love love inexpensive. I've wondered if I could rent a camping spot and just sleep in the back of my station wagon, no tent. jim
  11. Heh! My stepson (who's now 22) used to work at that Maggie Moo's too.
  12. One thing's for sure, few modern bridges have any visual appeal. I go out of my way sometimes to drive across an old metal truss bridge, just because. Trusses seldom fail to make me smile. Here's a link to a Google Maps image of a truss bridge I can drive anytime, since it's not terribly far from my house. At some point, the road was widened from 2 to 4 lanes, but thankfully they just built a new westbound bridge alongside the old span. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39....mp;t=k&z=18 Street View is active in that location, so if you want to experience the bridge, click Street View and then click somewhere on the bridge.
