  1. Had a great day here ... wish I'd been able to spend part of the day on the road. ;)

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving Day, too, Dave!

A friend saved this coupe from the scrap yard!
Have you saved any from the crusher, & if so, what?
I drew this while in high school, just a few short years ago:

  3. The funny thing about living so close to it ... as I found out by talking to people in Oregon during my 2011 road trip ... living so close to Route 20 is NOT like living so close to Route 66. Rt 66 is so famed that you KNOW you're near it. Route 20, on the other hand, doesn't have all the memorabilia attached to it, so while you "know" it is Route 20, you don't "know" it ... if that makes sense.

That written, I definitely "know" it now ... & each time I get on it, I wonder who all is driving it across the country at the same time. It's a neat feeling.

I'm 42 ... some consider that ancient, others consider that young. Given my open heart surgeries, I feel more like 102. ;)

  6. Ara & Spirit,

I certainly understand. I know several people who are doing nearly the same thing as you ... taking a break from social media. It makes sense ... perfect sense. In some ways, we are connected more than we were in the past ... & yet, those same avenues to connections drive us farther apart. It is frustrating, aggravating & sad.

  7. I live just blocks from US Route 20 ... & am disappointed to have to say I've never seen that website before ... or, if I have, completely forgot about it. I don't remember seeing anything about it in any of our city's literature, either. I'd love to become a member, but with no job for nearly 3 years & no income since September 2013, I can't exactly afford any "extra" costs. Maybe I'll contact them, though, & see if they have a partnership with Elgin or not.

I've traveled US 20 in Illinois extensively, from where I live to the Illinois-Iowa border. I've also driven it in Iowa.

In 2010, I drove parts of it on the east coast:

Then, in 2011, when I was on the west coast, I drove much of it in Oregon:

  8. Yep, I've seen that ... dealerships (not just GM, tho!) being named by the town name. Guess that makes sense ... better marketing & gives people a better understanding or idea of location. HOWEVER ... it takes away the "personal feel"....

Hmm ... I like that "grow old too fast & smart too slow". Hadn't heard/read that before, but ... it is true.

Auto dealerships count on catchy, unique & creative marketing campaigns to attract customers. Sometimes, the name of the place works wonders. For instance, a dealership named LUST!

It is sometimes ironic what inspires us. I was reviewing some old files & discovered a few articles I had written. Since then, along with re-writing some of those articles, I wrote an entry about a visit with my Nephew to Little Cubs Field (Freeport IL), which posted Friday, 09/11/2015 @ 10p US central. (My Niece will be featured in a post Monday, 09/14/2015 @ 10p US central.) A few other writing ideas have come to mind; just need to find a block of time to write; can’t be that hard, right!?
Meantime, 2 of the revised writings revolve around (what else!?) cars.
Respecting Others’ Vehicles is about 2 different instances I experienced regarding how strangers treat our cars:
Finding Long Lost Friends is about the car that started my automotive love affair & my to search for it:

Been off the boards for over a week for a variety of reasons, partly because of not having time & partly because I had to sell my 1989 Caprice Classic Brougham:
    89CC_licenseplates_on2.jpg
It was tough to sign over the title & watch it leave 09/01/2015. Life goes on, I know, & it is just-a-car, but selling really hurts. I still have my 1979 Caprice Classic sedan, for now.89CC_79CC_whichSeason.jpg
Meanwhile, a happier time, I took this pic of a 1957 Chevrolet (owned by a friend) in Barstow CA during my 2009 Route 66 road trip!
While I prefer the Caprice, the van would also work well for a road trip:

Sure am wishing I lived out west to see this in person ... or even had the $$ to do a road trip to meet up with them somewhere along the way.

Hope you are enjoying your time on the road. ;)
