How would you describe yourself as if you were a vehicle!? This is how I describe me:
I quipped this a while back & still find it true in so many ways:
Have not mentioned it in a while, but my Route 66-based story continues & most-recently, I have included some pictures I took along Route 66:
I really like the artistic nature in this photograph (with railroad tracks in the background) taken by a friend:
I am not sure I want to know more about this Buick! Artistic or not?
5 years ago, I was nearing the end of my Coast-to-Coast Road Trip & had seen this 1958 Chevy yesterday, 07/09/2011, Saturday:

In history, exactly 5 years ago today (day, date: Sunday, 07/03/2011), I was in the midst of Day 10 of my 18-day Coast-To-Coast Road Trip, which I have been featuring with 1 pic each day. Today, I was driving from Colorado to Utah, seeing some fine scenery along roads like I-70 & US Route 6, including this sight, complete with a motor home:
I stepped outside of my comfort zone a bit more & created a Video Version of the Trivia Tuesday theme, asking about locking keys in vehicles:
Surprising: when is the last time you have seen a 1959 Biscayne!?

After I shared some of my childhood drawings, a few people posted drawings of their own. 2 (from 2 different message boards) said I could feature their work, so this week, was the 1st of several of each.

    Today was National Splurge Day:
So, I splurge with more details about the upcoming event I am putting together in the South Elgin IL area (exact location to be confirmed).
    SAVE THE DATES
    07/30/2016, ~4p-10p, Saturday dinner & cruise night
    07/31/2016, ~11a-3p, Sunday lunch & gathering
Make a weekend of it or just attend 1 day; not sure I will be able to have hotel discounts, but should have food discounts.
Live video from the event like what I did this past Wednesday night?
    Maybe!
Why am I hosting this since I no longer have my cruising cars? Because I miss events & really loved hosting the ones I created ~2008! Plus, I miss nights like this, when a friend took a photo of his 1977 Pontiac Can Am at a cruise night:
Black & gold, like on this Camaro, is 1 of my favorite color combos, behind a few others. What are your favorite vehicle color combos?
    The latest Metro City entry:
I have featured a bunch of photos from this model town, with more pics cued for future feature!
A friend saw this Kaiser Darrin (with door sliding into front fender) in person:
Wonder why that feature did not catch on!?
A friend spotted this AMC wagon on a side street in his hometown in TX:
I thought it fit perfect with this meme I created about discoveries. Tho, along with going off the main road, trying the untried or not following instructions, I also add stepping outside of your comfort zone. I have successfully stepped outside of mine a few times lately & discovered I enjoyed it more than I thought, so perhaps will do a radio-show-like Live Video broadcast sometime soon!

Thanks to Facebook not allowing me to upload a 4th video, I stepped out of my comfort zone even more & opened an Old Cars, Strong Hearts YouTube Channel! I plan to put all of the videos there, but for now, I uploaded the Non-Live # 4 video (did-you-know info about me & save the dates for a Chicagoland gathering the last weekend of July) to YT:

Quite a while since I regularly went to cruise nights; when I get a different daily driver, the urge to just drive & go to cruise nights will return. These 3 entries are photos I took during summer 2011 cruise nights, when I attended a cruise night nearly every evening of the week.
#1 = Chevelle SS, Buick Riviera & Nova:
    #2 = Mopar wagon:
#3 = a VW & an Essex (when is the last time you saw 1 of those!?)
(This post also has a link to the 1st video I recorded.)
That 1st video was me stepping out of a comfort zone. It seemed to be well-received, so I did a 2nd video, this time about how low you let your gas tank go before filling it up again. (You should be able to see it whether or not you are on Facebook.)
Not sure when-if I will do more video(s).

  10. Hey Dave!

LOL! I'd LOVE to see that photo..... ;)

Thank you. It was an AWESOME day ... everyone there told me so. While several people took pics of that 1st event, 07/26/2008, this perhaps is the best grouping, which should give you an idea of what it was about:

    http://pics.projectmonte.com/album/12498

I wish that participation could'v been sustained; contrast that to the smaller gathering we had 2 years later, 07/24/2010:
It's funny you mentioned the live video aspect. I recently discovered the "Live Video" option on Facebook for my OC,SH page; yet, when I attempted to do it, I got an "unavailable" message. So, I recorded a pair of videos instead. So ... that IS a possibility for a gathering, but ... not sure how that would work, exactly.
Anyway, IF I schedule an event, I might do 2 different meals (Saturday evening & Sunday afternoon) to accommodate those who can do either day & those who would want to make a weekend of it. Just thought it might be cool to attempt another gathering, given all I have endured the last 4+ years.

I wrote this article, inspired by a vignette I experienced: aggravated at lost me-time, but thrilled with some quality Nephew & Niece Time. Included is the latest car I’ve colored with the assistance of Nephew & Niece, a 1959 Cadillac:
Who raced or races Pinewood Derby cars?
These 2 were done by a son & daughter of a friend!
BTW, having a good Sunday? If the weather where you are is as gorgeous as it is in Chicagoland, I hope you are out enjoying it: walking, bicycling, driving, sports, whatever! My life is so much different than it was a few short years ago: sad & weird to no longer have my sunny-day cars to go for a Sunday drive &/or road trip to see & meet people like I did 2002-2011. Instead, I am sitting on the back porch, doing my weekly catch-up here & crafting for the next 7 days of posts on my website.
I quipped the other day to a friend that sometimes, you just have to laugh at the absurdity, say goodbye & let people believe whatever they want; seems to be more & more true.

I am not much of a poetry writer; or, at least, I was not, until I was introduced to a short & sweet form. Then, I wrote 4 & several more in rapid succession, including this 1 about music & radio:

  17. Hey Dave!

Nope, it sure isn't ever easy ... but life isn't fair, as we all know. Tough to keep it in perspective at times, but I'm doing far better than many acknowledge. No appointment time(s) have been finalized yet; funny how these issues are always so urgent, then scheduling tests-appointments is either a pain in the rear or agonizingly un-urgent, either of which only adds to the anxiety levels. *rolls eyes*

Oh yes, I've always been interesting in all things automotive ... that has been ingrained into me ... with no chance of ever being "removed", as much as I would've liked it to be the last few years, after having to sell my cars, etc. I whole-heartily agree about the memories. :)

That sounds like an awesome project you did; I can imagine the fun you had doing it!

    Who remembers these toy vehicles?
These are just some of this type I still have!
Do you have any of the drawings you did as a kid?
This is most of the group of free-hand drawings of modes-of-transportation (with a mansion house) I did during 3 months, early-mid 1982!
A special car hauler, carrying history:
    &
When is the last time you saw this generation of Pontiac Grand Am!?
On an even more personal note, I had my regular cardiology checkup this past Thursday, 05/05/2016, in Chicago. While both valves (pulmonary-pig, aortic-cow) seem to be fine per preliminary results (my cardiologist will read the echocardiogram more thoroughly), the CT scan revealed a SPECK on 1 of my lungs. The report notes cancer, but my cardiologist clarified: the speck was not impressive in the 2011 scan, it was not seen in the 2013 scan & is only slightly bigger now than it was 5 years ago; all of this not exactly characteristic of cancer. My cardiologist referred me to a Northwestern pulmonary doctor for further review, etc. Since Medicaid cannot get specialist for me, she also referred me to a NW vein specialist & a NW nephrologist. Hope to find out next week if I can schedule appointments for all 3 on the same day, which would be most preferable for me, someone who does not like to go into Chicago. The other specialist I need, an orthopedist, my cardiologist was not able to give me a referral, but 2 out of 3 is not bad, right!?
All of this makes me want to get back on the road (my home) & on the radio ASAP (hopefully tying both into OC,SH somehow), but I have no idea how to accomplish those goals.

I was a 1-nameplate person, but within the last 6 years, I added the Caprice Classic & had been thinking of buying a Mercury Grand Marquis for a daily driver. Yet, I would also love to own an El Camino at some point, preferably 1 from the 1973-1977 generation, though I might consider a 1978-1987 version like this Junkyard Jewel:

Probably a good idea to proofread, otherwise you might condone sinning at a hymn sing:
