Oh is he ever! I am *slightly* (lol) jealous of him. He stopped to see me in late July 2021. It was a great, albeit short, visit, along US 20.

Dan, my best and closest-ever friend, died early AM 03/15/2022; I was in his ICU room with him. I have had quite the difficulty with this. I wrote several tributes.03/19/2022, the evening after we buried him:

So, I finally detailed my car. Big deal, right? For me, this time, it kinda is!When I had my family of MCs, I spent every "automotive season" Saturday (weather permitting) detailing a car. But, when I detailed my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS (which I'd bought late 2016) a few weeks ago, I hadn't detailed a car in at least 6 years. That sparked a "Monday Mystery" social media status which then led to a full entry (including pictures!) on OC,SH.
If you'd like to read the tale, check it out here:

Meantime, 1 reason I list events in all 50 states on the OC,SH website is to encourage people to travel to meet. I did that a lot ~2002-2011 (which some of you might remember). Along those road trips, I discovered some cool connections.Take a look at the list & see what you might want to attend yet this year. As always, you are welcome to join us in Elgin IL along Historic US 20 for Cruise Days (Sundays, 3p-6p) & Cruise Nights (Wednesdays, 6p-8p). What road trips have you planned & done around gatherings?

Also, 02/20/2021, I posted a vent-rant, which includes some rather personal news, on Facebook. As y'all can see, I'm horrible at replying within a "decent" timeframe. I had every intention of visiting again last Sunday, but a meeting with a client took longer than I'd anticipated ... and the entire day's schedule got even more out of whack with a close friend needing some help-support as well.
That noted ... glad to see the replies.
Forums seem to have slowed down, if not altogether completely gone away, since what felt like their "heyday" back in the early 2000s. Back then, I was a member of over 30 message boards and thoroughly enjoyed it ... & scheduled road trips around meeting people from those forums. At one dinner in Oklahoma City, I discovered a guy I'd known for years on a auto manufacturer-specific message board had been taught by my grandfather in HS in rural Oklahoma. Can't make those type of connection stories up. I get goose bumps every time I tell that story.
Michael ... I, too, am looking forward to being able to socialize in person again. Glad to see interest in US 99. I also checked out your Ridge Route website as well. Nice!
Dave ... glad to see you are alive & well, too! My goodness ... I didn't realize you are 80 years old! You seem like a youngster.

I used to be a daily-regular poster, but I haven't posted in ~1.5 years! How are you in this crazy year of 2020?Reviewing threads I've posted over the years, life changes & stays the same, with different & similar things important from time to time. Connections highlight life, with this world becoming smaller than we think sometimes. June 2019 already? As I suspected in April, life did get in the way of being active more often here. When I had my family of cars & road tripped yearly (2002-2011), I visited over 35 groups & message boards regularly; I cut back a few years ago & now visit irregularly because life has sure changed over the years.I am (thus far) still alive, tho. I have been out of work since last August & job hunting is difficult; I even started my own business. But, a new bright spot is returning to the airwaves!

So, which is your favorite(s) of the 9 posted photos!?
Seems we MAY have an apartment. Should know sometime soon, tho not sure what the definition of soon is in this case, ha.Depending on when we know for sure & when our move-in date is, I may sneak in a road trip, so let me know if you would like to see me along the way.
I had cardiology & other checkups scheduled for 05/17/2018 at Northwestern in Chicago, but had to cancel those & will re-schedule them (including additional specialists given the current health issues) once I know about the apartment. I may either fly or take the train back to Chicago (or maybe rent a car), then drive my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS back to Oregon.

http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2018/05/18/cobweb-dusting/I thought about highlighting 2-3 pics in this post, but could not decide which to feature! Which would you have featured?
Meantime, we are awaiting word about approval for a possible apartment in Medford OR. If that does not pan out, I will most-likely road trip! Anyone want me to stop for a visit if I go?Speaking of, I have been without a vehicle for over 2 weeks, more difficult for me than even I imagined. Along with financial worries, I have a few health issues developing, so I am trying not to panic. A barber, a dentist, a home-cooked meal, & someone to explore the area with me would be nice.
Once things settle down a bit, I plan to return checking in here more regularly. Until then, peace.

Hmm ... where is everybody!!!!???
The last 2 days have featured awesome weather in southern OR, & I took advantage both late afternoons by walking ~45-60 minutes on a section of Bear Creek Greenway, starting at a park at I-5 Exit 21. Snapped some photos & took a video which will be included when I write a post (might schedule several entries) on www.oldcarsstronghearts.com for the photos & videos I have taken since January, some of which I have uploaded to my personal Facebook page, globally so they can be seen whether you are on FB or not.
Anyway, since I last visited, made a few connections, but so far, still no place. IF we cannot find a place within the next few weeks, I may consider road tripping for a little while! Anyone want a visit if I start driving?
Yes, I have a job. I continue working remotely as the Part-Time Office Manager for a home appraiser in the Elgin IL area, planning to go to Full-Time later this year; I want to get off Medicaid when I can afford my own healthcare policy. *rolls eyes* Luckily, I have other income options to check out, but meantime, I will withdraw funds from my IRA to pay some bills since expenses keep increasing.Right now, to save money on renting a car (currently a yellow Dodge charger at a very low rate), I am trying to decide if I should buy a 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis here for $1,000 or spend nearly $2,000 to have my beloved 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS shipped to southern OR. Decisions decisions decisions.
Peace.

Gorgeous area here in southern Oregon (like MANY other places across the United States) & pics do not do it justice. But, I hope to have a new post soon on www.oldcarsstronghearts.com with many photos I have taken so far. While I apologize for not including more detail about what all we HAVE looked into so far, I purposefully kept it vague because I did not want to limit brainstorming (tho, we are already thinking outside-the-box). So, yes, we have checked Craiglist, local ads, local newspapers, area businesses, etc., & reached out to Mennonite Your Way (no response yet) & other similar organizations.
At this point, we are hoping networking will help. I have always said (given experiences during my 2002-2011 road trips) we are more connected than we know. My favorite small-world story of that type is when I met a guy I had known for a few years in Oklahoma City OK in 2006 & (long story short) found out he had been taught by my grandfather in a rural OK High School. Every connection helps.

Been a while, eh? Yes, I am still alive, but the biggest news is I am no longer in IL!A friend & I moved to southern OR 01/04/2018, but 2.5 months into the move, we are still looking for a place to call home (apartment, motor home, trailer, house). So, if you have any connections in the Grants Pass-Central Point-Medford-Ashland areas who may be able to assist us, we would greatly appreciate it. Neither of us want to give up, despite increasing pressures, stress & expenses.

*Yep, I know it has been a while since I last visited, over 5 months, in fact. The road trips I had planned were quickly destroyed, thanks to new health issues & unexpected expenses which wiped out my built-up savings. The health issues had stabilized, more or less, thanks in part to Medicaid finally approving specialists, but then a scare about a speck in my lung being cancerous put me back on edge.I hope to get health issues & finances situated enough so I can do my Road Trips & Working plans sometime later this year or early next year. Meantime, I have been doing (& chronicling on my website) some day exploratory road trips with my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS in the northern IL area to drive roads I have never seen, the latest excursion of which happened Tuesday, 07/11/2017, in conjunction with a drive to Moline IL to meet a friend in person for the 1st time. Annotations on photographs is an option that I am mixed about. I prefer to have a description outside the image, that way the subject of the photo is not covered over. Sometimes it isn't easy to show or describe certain features, such as a slight change in grass color or vegetation on top of an older alignment.
Despite my usage of a "stamp" on the photos I post on my website, I definitely struggle with adding them. I don't like covering the image, either; however, I've also found many times pics I've taken have been used elsewhere with no notation as to where they originated. Cool as that is, I've seen times when people have asked to see more, but have not been directed to where they can see more. Since I started adding the "stamps", I've found a slight increase in views on my website. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not ... I'll never know for sure!
I have been having another thought about this finding old roads thing. I have a gopro camera. I've used it to video some now removed sections of roadway, such as the North Burbank UP on US 99 in Burbank, CA as well as the Soto / Huntington Viaduct, a former Pacific Electric grade separation. I no longer have a mount on my motorcycle helmet but can mount it other places. What I haven't done is do anything with a narrative. Would there be interest in some sort of narrative video where I describe certain roadway features? Could be a lot of fun too.
To answer your query ... YES!!!!!!!!!! I don't have a GoPro, but I've been thinking of adding more videos when I go "on the road" in 2017.
