49th Annual Apple Butter Stirrin’ Festival

October 19, 2018

The Annual Apple Butter Stirrin’ Festival is now in its 49th year. Attracting crowds of all ages to experience the sights, sounds and flavors of the Fall season, the festival offers three days of family fun with a variety of entertainment. Over 100 craft and food vendors line the street in Roscoe Village, presenting a number of handcrafted items and delicious foods. Visitors are able to sample the sweet taste of homemade apple butter as it is hand-stirred in a copper kettle over an open fire, as they listen to the variety of musical performances by traditional dulcimer players, bluegrass bands, country musicians and more.

As part of the festival admission, guests are able to go on Canal Town Journey, a self-guided Living History tour to hear the captivating stories from the costumed historical interpreters. Visitors will also come across historical characters while strolling throughout the festival. Throughout the weekend, younger visitors can enjoy the kids’ activities, such as tin punching, various crafts, puppet shows and face painting. The nearby canal boat offers a taste of life on the canal with its horse-drawn boat rides. After the festival, the eerie candlelit tour, Spirit of Roscoe, will be offered at 7 p.m. at the cost of $12.95 for adults and $6.95 for children (reservations are required).

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission tickets are $5.00 for visitors of ages twelve years and older. Cost of admission is FREE for Roscoe Village Foundation members and children under the age of 12.
